Taxonomy
Tellinides oblonga was named by Sowerby (1846) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Chile.]. Its type specimen is NHM-L27961, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Tellina oblonga by Philippi (1887); it was recombined as Tellinella oblonga by Griffin and Nielsen (2008).
