Julia was named by Gould (1862) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 614,1218]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Juliidae, Juliinae.
It was assigned to Juliinae by Le Renard et al. (1996); to Sacoglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Juliidae by Smith (1885), Gardner (1947), Lozouet et al. (2001) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
