Voluta scabricula was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Volutocorbis scabriculus by Burton (1933); it was recombined as Athleta scabricula by Pomerol and Feugueur (1974); it was recombined as Volutocorbis scabricula by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
