Taxonomy
Voluta cithara was named by Lamarck (1802) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grignon (Lamarck collection), which is in a Lutetian open shallow subtidal sandstone/sandstone in France.
It was recombined as Volutilithes cithara by Newton (1905); it was recombined as Athleta cithara by Abrard (1925); it was recombined as Athleta (Neoathleta) cithara by Glibert (1960).
