Taxonomy
Voluta mutata was named by Deshayes (1835) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Athleta mutata by Furon and Soyer (1947); it was recombined as Athleta mutatus by Piccoli and Savazzi (1983); it was recombined as Athleta (Neoathleta) mutatus by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
