Cytherea transversa was named by Sowerby (1829) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pitar transversus by Tracey et al. (1995) and Tracey et al. (1995); it was recombined as Pitar (Calpitaria) transversa by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
