Siphonaria was named by Sowerby (1824) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Siphonariidae by Woodring (1928), Sohl (1964), Kensley (1972), Gordillo (1991), Jensen (1996) and Todd (2001); and to Basommatophora by Sepkoski (2002).
