Raphitoma polycolpa was named by Cossmann (1889) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pleurotomella polycolpa by Morellet and Morellet (1945); it was recombined as Pleurotomella (Systenope) polycolpa by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
