Taxonomy
Nautilus alabamensis was named by Morton (1834) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Aturia (Brazaturia) alabamensis by Stenzel (1935); it was recombined as Aturia alabamanensis by Powell and Baum (1982); it was recombined as Aturia alabamensis by Olsson (1928), Miller and Furnish (1938), Harris and Palmer (1947), Kummel (1956), Palmer and Brann (1965) and Squires (1988).
