Pleurotoma volgeri was named by Edwards (1861) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cochlespira volgeri by King and King (1976); it was recombined as Ancistrosyrinx volgeri by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
