Pleurotoma simillima was named by Edwards (1861) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Fusiturris simillima by King and King (1976) and Bone (1978); it was recombined as Hemipleurotoma simillima by Bone (1985); it was recombined as Eopleurotoma simillima by Tracey (1992) and Jeffery and Tracey (1997).
