Rostellaria plana was named by Beyrich (1854) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Dientomochilus (Ectinochilus) planus by Cossmann and Pissarro (1911); it was recombined as Ectinochilus planum by Tracey et al (1995); it was recombined as Ectinochilus planus by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
