Rostellaria athleta was named by d'Orbigny (1850) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Tibia athleta by Piccoli and Savazzi (1983); it was recombined as Tibia (Amplogladius) athleta by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
