Taxonomy

Archaeocyathus was named by Billings (1861) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Cm Tojo-u]. It is the type genus of Archaeocyathidae, Archaeocyathoidea.

It was assigned to Archaeocyathida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Archaeocyathidae by Okulitch (1950), Kerner et al. (2011) and Debrenne et al. (2015).
