Dissorophinae was named by Boulenger (1902). Its type is Dissorophus. It was considered monophyletic by Schoch (2013).

It was assigned to Dissorophidae by Watson (1919), Kuhn (1946), Anderson et al. (2008), Bourget and Anderson (2011), Schoch (2013) and Schoch and Milner (2014).
