Acaroceras was named by Chen et al. (1979) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Trep-l Cm Trep-u Sepkoski's reference number: 297].

It was assigned to Acaroceratidae by Crick (1981) and Chen and Qi (1981); and to Ellesmerocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
