Mactra compressa was named by Deshayes (1832) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Spisula compressa by Tracey et al (1995); it was recombined as Spisula (Austromactra) compressa by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995) and Le Renard and Pacaud (1995).
