Gyroscala stueri was named by de Boury (1890) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Epitonium stueri by Wrigley (1931); it was recombined as Cirsotrema (Gyroscala) stueri by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
