Desioceras was named by Cecioni (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren Sepkoski's reference number: 298].

It was assigned to Ellesmeroceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Eothinoceratidae by Cecioni and Flower (1985).
