Taxonomy
Dyscritoceras was named by Ulrich and Foerste (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren Sepkoski's reference number: 298]. Its type is Cyrtoceras metellus.

It was assigned to Bassleroceratidae by Ulrich et al. (1944), Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); to Ellesmerocerida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ellesmeroceratidae by Evans (2011).
