Taxonomy
Mytilus septifer was named by King (1844).

It was synonymized subjectively with Liebea squamosa by Logan (1967) and Pattison (1970); it was recombined as Liebea septifer by Waagen (1881), Kłapciński (1967), Muromtseva (1981), Karczewski (1982) and Muromtseva and Guskov (1984).
