Taxonomy
Nautilus rota was named by Blanford (1861). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Hercoglossa rota by Spengler (1910); it was recombined as Paracymatoceras rota by Kobayashi (1954) and Gliozzi and Malatesta (1983).
