Taxonomy
Costatumulus meritus was named by Waterhouse (1986). Its type specimen is UQF 74009 and is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is UQ L997, Cattle Creek, upstream from Consuelo Creek, which is in an Artinskian marine shale in the Sirius Formation of Australia.
