Taxonomy
Acanthocrania platys was named by Cooper and Grant (1974). Its type specimen is USNM 151456, a valve, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM728f, Victorio Canyon, Sierra Diablo, which is in a Kungurian shallow subtidal limestone in the Bone Spring Formation of Texas.
