Multicameroceras was named by Kobayashi (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-l Sepkoski's reference number: 298,524].

It was assigned to Plectronoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Ellesmerocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
