Taxonomy
Bothrostegium compactum was named by Cooper and Grant (1974). Its type specimen is USNM 152599b, a valve (Ventral valve), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM703c, Old Word Ranch, Glass Mountains, which is in a Kungurian slope limestone in the Road Canyon Formation of Texas.
