Taxonomy
Oneotoceras was named by Ulrich (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. Its type is Cyrtoceras loculosum.

It was assigned to Cyrtendoceratidae by Ulrich et al. (1943); to Ellesmeroceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Ellesmerocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
