Niviconia abrupta was named by Cooper and Grant (1974) [USNM 150512f is listed as holotype in text, but handwritten annotations assign it to Niviconia globosa (King). USNM 153540a-c are figured paratypes.]. Its type specimen is USNM 153540a-c, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil.
