Paracyclostomiceras was named by Cecioni (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 298,524]. Its type is Paracyclostomiceras floweri.

It was assigned to Ellesmeroceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Crick (1981); and to Cyclostomiceratidae by Sepkoski (2002).
