Taxonomy
Chonetinella cymatilis was named by Grant (1976). Its type specimen is USNM 211993, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Neochonetes (Sommeriella) cymatilis by Archbold (1983) and Zong et al. (2024).
