Taxonomy
Spinifrons grandicosta was named by Hoover (1981). Its type specimen is USNM 221259, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Locality 13, mule trail between El Portachuelo and Mucuchachi, which is in a Kungurian deep subtidal shelf wackestone in the Palmarito Formation of Venezuela.
