Taxonomy
Naticopsis monilifera was named by White (1880). Its type specimen is USGS 2963, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Colpites.
It was recombined as Pleurotomaria monilifera by Keyes (1894) and Morgan (1924); it was recombined as Angyomphalus moniliferus by Knight (1933); it was recombined as Colpites monilifera by Knight (1936) and Knight (1941).
