Centroonoceras was named by Kobayashi (1934) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren O Llde Sepkoski's reference number: 298]. Its type is Ooceras tokunagai.
It was assigned to Troedssonellidae by Crick (1981); to Orthocerida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proteoceratidae by Niko (2005); and to Sactorthoceratidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Kröger et al. (2007).
