Diagoceras was named by Flower (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife Sepkoski's reference number: 299]. Its type is Orthoceras aptum.

It was assigned to Spyroceratinae by Teichert et al. (1964); and to Spyroceratidae by Kröger (2008).
