Taxonomy
Eridites was named by Zhuravleva (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-u S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. It is the type genus of Eriditidae.

It was assigned to Spyroceratinae by Teichert et al. (1964); to Eriditidae by Chen et al. (1981); and to Orthocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
