Leurocycloceras was named by Foerste (1928). Its type is Leurocycloceras raymondi. It is the type genus of Leurocycloceratinae.
It was assigned to Leurocycloceratinae by Chen et al. (1981); to Orthoceratidae by Crick (1981); and to Orthocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
