Lyecoceras was named by Mutvei (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Paraphragmitidae by Teichert et al. (1964) and Chen et al. (1981); and to Orthocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
