Parakionoceras was named by Foerste (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-u D Emsi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Kionoceratinae by Teichert et al. (1964); to Kionoceratinae by Chen et al. (1981); and to Arionoceratidae by Kröger (2008).
