Cancrinella subquadrata was named by Cooper and Grant (1975) [Dorsal valve has spines, probably a true Cancrinella. Short spine ridges, abundant fine spines, small ears separates from Filiconcha.]. Its type specimen is USNM 152777, a valve (Ventral valve), and it is not a trace fossil.
