Taxonomy
Tapinotomaria rugosa was named by Batten (1956). Its type specimen is USNM 125281, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM702d, Hill 5725, Glass Mountains, which is in a Kungurian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Hess Formation of Texas.
