Taxonomy
Asterias matutina was named by Hall (1847). It is not extant. It is the type species of Macroporaster.

It was recombined as Palaeaster matutinus by Hall (1868); it was recombined as Hudsonaster matutinus by Schuchert (1915); it was recombined as Macroporaster matutinus by Blake (2018).
