Pararhipidium was named by Boucot and Johnson (1979) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u S Ludl Sepkoski's reference number: 25,538]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Rhipidium (Pararhipidium) by Williams et al. (2002).

It was assigned to Rhipidium by Williams et al. (2002); and to Pentamerida by Sepkoski (2002).
