Taxonomy
Neochonetes liratus was named by Cooper and Grant (1975). Its type specimen is USNM 152104a, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM702j, Hill 4752, Glass Mountains, which is in a Gzhelian marine limestone in the Gaptank Formation of Texas.
