Micraphelia was named by Cooper and Grant (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-m P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 7]. Its type is Micraphelia scitula.

It was assigned to Undulellinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
