Tripteroceroides was named by Miller and Furnish (1940) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524].

It was assigned to Spyroceratinae by Teichert et al. (1964); and to Orthocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
