Thecosmilia alfurica was named by Wilckens (1937). It is not extant. Its type locality is Central Ceram, Indonesia, which is in a Sevatian/Rhaetian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in Indonesia.
It was recombined as Retiophyllia alfurica by Caruthers and Stanley (2008).
