Taxonomy
Atrypa pectinifera was named by Sowerby (1841). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Humbleton Quarry, Durham (Sedgwick coll), which is in a Wuchiapingian reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Ford Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Terebratula pectinifera by de Verneuil (1845) and Keyserling (1846); it was recombined as Cleiothyris pectinifera by King (1850); it was recombined as Spirigera pectinifera by Howse (1857); it was recombined as Athyris pectinifera by Davidson (1858), Geinitz (1861) and Waagen (1883); it was recombined as Athyris (Cliothyris) pectinifera by Tschernyschew (1902); it was misspelled as Atrypa pectenifera by Howse (1848); it was recombined as Cleiothyridina pectinifera by Dunbar (1955), Kashirtsev (1959), Ustritsky and Chernyak (1963), Stehli and Grant (1971), Lee and Gu (1980), Grunt (1980) and Grunt (1986).
