Nucula wymmensis was named by Keyserling (1846).
It was recombined as Nuculopsis wymmensis by Gu et al. (1976), Muromtseva (1981), Muromtseva and Guskov (1984), Fang (1987), Feng et al. (1992) and Fang and Yin (1995).
