Strophalosia prideri was named by Coleman (1957). Its type specimen is CPC 1018, a shell (Articulated shell), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Echinalosia prideri by Waterhouse (1982), Waterhouse (1986) and Archbold (1986).
