Taxonomy
Palasterina rugosa was named by Billings (1857). It is the type species of Hudsonaster.

It was recombined as Hudsonaster rugosus by Schuchert (1915); it was recombined as Hudsonaster rugosa by Stürtz (1899) and Blake (2018).
